Special Education Advice
Navigating the British education system can be challenging for families of children with neurodiverse conditions, but the Lauriston Centre is here to help. We provide expert advice and guidance on accessing Special Education support, including assistance with securing and understanding Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). These plans are essential for ensuring children receive the tailored support they need in school and beyond. Our team works closely with families to help them understand their rights, communicate effectively with schools and local authorities, and advocate for the best possible educational outcomes. Whether you need help applying for an EHCP, appealing a decision, or negotiating with your child’s school, we’re here to support you every step of the way.
We can provide a detailed assessment of your child’s development and learning to help identify strengths and weaknesses and guide an educational or behavioural intervention. The assessment can also be used to continue monitoring the child’s progress and benefit educators, whether for home-based programs or schools.
The Lauriston Centre provides support in navigating systems:
Help families understand their rights under laws like the Children and Families Act 2014 in the UK or Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC), 2013 in Scotland.
Guide families through processes such as obtaining an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and recommend interventions, therapies, or specialists that align with the child’s unique need as well as advocate for early diagnosis and intervention to optimise long-term outcomes.
Liaison with Educational and Healthcare Provider.
Collaborate with schools, healthcare providers, and therapists to ensure recommendations are practical and feasible, and to help implement strategies to accommodate the child’s learning or health challenges within their educational setting.
Recommendations for Service Improvements.
The Lauriston Centre may also identify gaps in the services the child receives and suggest improvements. Specifically The Lauriston Centre can encourage better integration of health and educational services for children with complex needs.
